Where Legacy Inspires Opportunity

A determined local teacher, Susie Tolbert, believed every student had limitless potential if given access to a high-quality school. Instead of just talking about her beliefs, she advocated for transforming Jacksonville schools into vibrant communities. Her dream was a school where students could flourish, grow, and go on to do great things. Over a century later, we honor a dream realized at Susie Tolbert Elementary. Home to a dynamic, empowering learning experience, we’re known for innovative teaching methods, small group instructions, a unique “house” system (more on that in a moment), and a dedicated team of educators encouraging every child to reach their full potential through action, an approach that would make Susie Tolbert proud.

Your House For A Unique Learning Environment

It doesn’t take a wizard like Harry Potter to tell you just how magical our school is. At the heart of Susie E. Tolbert lies our dynamic 4 House System: Altruismo (Selflessness), Isibindi (Courage), Amistad (Friendship), and Reveur (Dreamer). This system, unique to our school, fosters a sense of belonging and healthy competition while promoting essential life skills. Students are welcomed into houses, supporting teamwork, responsibility, and pride. Houses compete in academic and social activities, creating a spirit of camaraderie and motivation. The House System empowers student leadership as students take on roles within their houses, organizing events and representing their team’s values. Now that’s how you make a house feel like home.

Students Get Better. And Better. And Better Still.

Susie E. Tolbert prioritizes continuous improvement through rigorous learning. But it's not just our students who get even better. How we teach them continually reaches new heights. Our incredible teachers are known for constantly evolving their instructional methods to ensure your child benefits from the latest and greatest teaching approaches. They combine group instruction, collaborative learning, and student discourse to create a rich and diverse instructional program. This approach ensures students receive the support and challenge they need to thrive. Expect a well-rounded curriculum that fosters critical thinking, communication, and creativity.

A Modern School, One Century In The Making.

When Susie Tolbert moved to Jacksonville after the great fire in 1901, a fire burned inside her to give children of every background the superior education they deserve. Today, we build on her legacy with our one-of-a-kind House System, opportunities to work with peers and mentors, and countless academic, extracurricular, and social activities. Add in beloved arts and music programs, a positive and inclusive learning community, experienced, nurturing teachers, and so much more, and you can see why children and parents like you choose us.
