    Meet Mr. Fretz!

Mr. Fretz has been a teacher at FMS for 19 years. He has taught U.S. & World History, Civics, and currently teaches our gifted electives, Global Scholars and 6thgrade Critical Thinking. Since 2017, he has served as the school’s Gifted Learning Lead and Technology Innovation Specialist. In 2019 he helped launch the Beaches Go Green Club and is currently a co-sponsor of the Chess Club. Since 2007, he has been the FMS Boys’ Soccer Head Coachin which his teams have won over 150 games, 10 conference titles, and 3 city championships. In 2022, Mr. Fretz was the recipient of the Cindy Edelman Excellence in TeachingFellowship Award

This month, he launched the first ever FMS “gifted lab”—to enhance critical and creative thinking skills and provide students with access to hands-on activities using STEMRobotics, and Coding materials.

Mr. Fretz enjoys traveling with his family, theme parks, the beach, playing video games, and is a huge fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the Houston Astros!

“I love teaching because it gives me the opportunity to inspire students to reach their highest potential. One of the most satisfying moments is when I see a student apply a lesson to an authentic, real-world scenarioIn Global Scholars we communicate with international peers to find solutions to global issuesWe end each year with a project that inspirestudents to apply their knowledge and make an impact in their community. It is a such a joy to be a part of their learning experience!”
