Dear Parents and Guardians,
We’re excited to share what your child will be learning this week and offer tips for how you can engage with them about their education! Here's a quick overview of the key subjects your child will explore and how you can get involved.
English Language Arts (ELA)
Students will dive into reading the novel The Lightning Thief (6h grade), the classic short "Annabel Lee" (7th grade), and Poetry (8th grade). While reading these text, your student will study figurative language used within these text, practice using context clues to understand the meaning of unfamiliar words, and point of view. To stay connected, ask your child what text they’re reading and discuss the main themes, characters, and their personal takeaways.
Mathematics
This week, students will work on algebraic equations (6th grade), solving percent equations (7th grade), solving inequalities (8th grade), and determining absolute value in Algebra. Try solving math problems together and ask them to explain how they work through a challenge.
Science
Science will cover various topics this week from Florida's landforms (6th grade) to Evolution (7th grade) and atoms and cells in 8th grade and Biology. Ask about their experiments and discoveries, and explore related topics together through online resources or nature walks.
Social Studies
Students in 6th grade will wrap up their learning of Mesopotamia with a project. 7th graders will dive into British Policies that led to the American Revolution and create skits about what they learned. Students in Civics will study checks and balances, branches of government, and citizenship. Ask what time period they’re learning about and connect it to today’s world by discussing current news or watching documentaries together.
To stay involved, ask your child about their day, offer encouragement, and take an active interest in what they're learning. These simple conversations can make a big impact on their success!
