About Exceptional Student Education

The Exceptional Education and Student Services (EE/SS) Department of Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) provides comprehensive support and services to students with disabilities (SWD) who qualify for special education. DCPS serves over 20,000 students with disabilities, from birth through age 22, across more than 200 schools in Jacksonville, Florida. A continuum of services is offered in a variety of settings, including general education classrooms, resource rooms, self-contained special education classrooms, specialized day schools, and hospital/homebound programs. Most students with disabilities can receive the services they need at their neighborhood school. Eligible students are provided services and supports identified in their Individual Education Plan (IEP), which is tailored to each child’s unique needs.

Duval County Public Schools’ ESE Department is committed to fostering strong partnerships with parents and guardians, ensuring they are actively involved in educational decisions regarding their child. Parents are provided with procedural safeguards and are integral members of the IEP team. Collaboration between school staff, families, and students is essential to the success of students with disabilities. By working together, we can fulfill our mission of providing educational supports and services for every student, every day, and achieve our vision of preparing students with diverse needs for success in life, college, and career. Together, we are committed to excellence—One Team, One Goal!
