On March 12, 2025, Mt. Herman ESC proudly hosted its highly anticipated Special Olympics event, celebrating inclusion, achievement, and community spirit. This year’s theme, Creating an Inclusive Word, provided a memorable experience for participants, families, business partners, and guests alike. The event showcased the remarkable talents of students, staff, and community partners, uniting everyone in the spirit of collaboration and empowerment.
The event kicked off with a moving rendition of the National Anthem by Ms. Priscilla Boston, while a helicopter flyover by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) added an exciting element to the opening, setting the stage for a day of celebration.
The parade commenced, featuring local and regional officials as well as Mt. Herman ESC’s distinguished Grand Marshals. Among those honored were Teachers of the Year Ms. Jacqueline Heslin, Employee of the Year Mr. Willie Boggan, and others who made significant contributions to the school community. The parade also highlighted the involvement of parents, students, and volunteers, along with notable figures such as Duval County Public Schools (DCPS) officials and representatives from various community organizations.
After the parade, Principal Moses E. Williams led the Welcome and Recognition segment, celebrating the key contributors to the success of the event. Principal Williams remarked, “We want to continue to show the great energy and love that we have for this community.” During this segment, organizations such as Alliance of Therapy Dogs of North Florida, the Andrew Jackson Band, Stanton High School Cheerleaders and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office were recognized for their ongoing support.
