❤️ PULSE OF THE DISTRICT - DAY 5: RELAY ❤️

FRIDAY FOCUS: RELAY - Be Ready to Save a Life.

We're closing Pulse of the District with one final challenge: RELAY what you know.

This week, you learned how to recognize cardiac arrest, respond with Hands-Only CPR, retrieve and use an AED, and react during an emergency.

Today, teach someone else. Show a friend, teammate, parent, sibling, or trusted adult what you learned. Ask them: "Would you know what to do if someone suddenly collapsed?"

Lifesaving knowledge becomes even more powerful when we share it.

🧠 TRIVIA: Which action could help make your community safer?
A. Keep lifesaving information to yourself
B. Teach someone else what you learned
C. Wait until someone has an emergency to learn

Answer: B - Teach someone else what you learned.

🎯 ACTIVITY: The Lifesaving Relay! Give students 2-3 minutes to teach a partner one thing they learned this week. Then challenge the partner to teach someone else.

Students can relay:

Recognizing cardiac arrest
Calling 911
Hands-Only CPR
The 100-120 compression rhythm
Finding an AED
The steps to respond
Why early action matters
One trained person can influence an entire family, team, or community. When one person teaches another, that knowledge can continue to spread through families, teams, schools, workplaces, and communities. The more people who are prepared to respond, the more likely someone will be ready to help when an emergency happens.

Finish strong — each student identifies one person OUTSIDE the classroom they will teach something to this week.

You can be the reason someone lives.

Be ready to act.

Is the renewal of the 1-mill a tax increase?

No. It is not an increase. It is a continuation.

The 1 mill is the same as what Duval County voters approved in 2022. If renewed, it would continue for another four years and help restore funding lost from other sources.

The 1 mill must be renewed by voters every four years to remain in effect.

Learn more about the 1-mill referendum and find answers to frequently asked questions by visiting our website. www.duvalschools.org/vote

❤️ PULSE OF THE DISTRICT - DAY 4: REACT ❤️

THURSDAY FOCUS: REACT - Work together. Every second counts.

You've learned to RECOGNIZE cardiac arrest, RESPOND with Hands-Only CPR, and RETRIEVE an AED. Today, it's time to REACT.

Scenario: Someone collapses at school, during practice, or at a game. They're unresponsive and not breathing normally. What do you do?

Call 911. Start Hands-Only CPR. Send someone for the AED. Use it as soon as it arrives. Don't just memorize the steps — picture yourself using them. Being prepared can help you react quickly when every second counts.

🧠 TRIVIA: Someone suddenly collapses, is unresponsive, and is not breathing normally. Which sequence is correct?
A. Wait → Call a friend → Find an AED
B. Call 911 → Start Hands-Only CPR → Get an AED → Follow the AED prompts
C. Get water → Move them → Wait for help

Answer: B - Call 911 → Start Hands-Only CPR → Get an AED → Follow the AED prompts

🎯 ACTIVITY: 60-Second Emergency Challenge! Give students one minute to determine:

Who calls 911?
Who starts CPR?
Who retrieves the AED?
What happens when the AED arrives?
It's not just memorizing steps — it's about teamwork.

Be ready to act.

❤️ PULSE OF THE DISTRICT - DAY 3: RETRIEVE ❤️

WEDNESDAY FOCUS: RETRIEVE - Know your AED.

During cardiac arrest, CPR keeps blood moving, while an AED - or automated external defibrillator - can analyze the heart rhythm and deliver a shock when needed.

AEDs provide step-by-step instructions, so don't be afraid to use one. Your challenge today is simple: Find out where the AEDs are located on your school campus. In an emergency, knowing where to go can save valuable time.

🧠 TRIVIA: What is the primary purpose of an AED?
A. To measure someone's blood pressure
B. To analyze heart rhythm and deliver a shock when appropriate
C. To replace CPR

Answer: B - To analyze heart rhythm and deliver a shock when appropriate.

🎯 ACTIVITY: Find Your AED Challenge! Ask students to identify the location of the nearest AED to their classroom, gym, athletic field, cafeteria, or other frequently used areas.

Then ask: "If someone collapsed here, how would someone get the AED while another person calls 911 and begins CPR?"

Do YOU know where your AED is?
