This weekend, both our JV and Varsity Cheer teams brought their talent and hard work to the UCA Florida Regional Competition. Congratulations to our Varsity Cheerleaders for making school history by placing 2nd in our division AND earning our FIRST-EVER bid to compete in the UCA National Cheer Competition! Go Generals!
Congratulations to Kynlei Gibbs, Riverside High School student, whose poem won the high school category for the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast’s Tomorrow’s Leaders Award! Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan came out to campus on Thursday, December 12th, to personally recognize Kynlei’s accomplishment. We are so proud of Kynlei and Mr. Dave Thomas, her wonderful English teacher.
Our ROTC cadets had a busy week participating in Veteran Day Celebrations this year. They had the honor of Marching in the Jacksonville City Veterans Day Parade, participating in the FSCJ Veteran Day Ceremony, and Lakeshore Middle School Veterans Day Celebration.
-The Grad Bash trip to Universal Studios on April 5, 2025 is SOLD OUT! A waiting list will be created when we return from Winter Break in case a student wants to sell their ticket. An announcement will be made/published about the waiting list.
-Cap and gowns must be purchased by December 1, 2024. The cost is $75.00. After the 1st, the price will then rise to $95.00 and will be sold until January 1, 2025. Please visit www.hjjax.com to place your order. Cap and gowns have been available for purchase since October 18, 2024.
-Details about graduation have not yet been published. An announcement will be made when we receive official notification from the school board.
-Please begin submitting your college acceptance letters, scholarship award letters, and FFAA/FAFSA application submission documents to your counselors ASAP! These items will help to secure additional graduation tickets.
Sankofa Club wants you to “show you care, give a pair!” Sankofa is hosting their annual sock drive. All socks donated will go to the City Rescue Mission. The sock box locations are based on grade:
9th graders- Room 887
10th graders- Room 875
11th graders - Room 802
12th graders- Room 881
Whoever donates the most socks in each grade will be rewarded.
We will receive donations until December 16th 2024.
The RHS Singing Generals participated in the DCPS Fall Choral Festival. The students performed an 8-minute medley of songs from their Fall Repertoire. Schools that participated were Paxon, Westside, Wolfson, DASOTA, Terry Parker & First Coast. If you see a chorus member, wish them congratulations on a job well done representing our school. #gogenerals
1. The last day to purchase your student's cap and gown is December 1, 2024. The price is $75.00. After this date the price will raise to $95.00 and will only be available until January 1, 2025. Cap and gowns will not be available after January 1, 2025. Purchases can be made online at www.hjjax.com or on campus during all lunches on November 5th and 6th.
2. As of Friday, November 1, 2024, there are 29 seats available for Grad Bash 2025 at Universal Studios Orlando. The cost is $220.00 and can be made using the www.schoolcashonline.com website.
3. Your student needs to check the correct spelling of their name for diploma printing purposes by the close of school on Friday, November 8, 2024. Diplomas will NOT be reprinted if your student doesn't complete the necessary name change form and provide proof of corrections that need to be made by this date. Due to time and space constraints, a maximum of four names will be printed on the diploma.
4. Students need to check the Class of 2025 TEAMS page weekly for updates, announcements and scholarship information. This page has a wealth of information and is continuously updated.
5. Graduation date, time and venue has yet to be announced. Once DCPS has made graduation information available, we will announce all information, including the number of tickets each graduate will receive at that time.
6. Now is the time to start submitting your college acceptance (including military enlistment/trade school/full-time employment)/scholarship award letters to your school counselor. Doing this is one of the first ways to secure additional graduation tickets.
I'm A Star teens were invited to speak at the White House and were recognized by national leaders on September 18th, 2024. Jhi'nema Philyaw, Kenya Robinson, and Kriston Thompkins attended and represented Riverside High School very well. We are PROUD of our Generals. Riverside ROTC Cadets conducted their Annual AMI Inspection and Ceremony on Friday, November 1st. We are truly proud of all their dedication and hard work to prepare for this event. They passed the inspection with excellence! Go Generals!
The Riverside High School "Marching Generals" returned to the Florida Bandmaster's Association District 17 Marching Band Music Performance Assessment for the first time in over 5 years on Saturday, November 2nd. The band received an overall rating of "Good". Special shout out to the Royals Dance Team and Ethereal Silks Flag Team for receiving a "SUPERIOR" rating for their performance on yesterday, as this was the first superior rating in school history! Way to go Marching Generals - continue to live and lead by the band motto "Marching with PRIDE and Striving for EXCELLENCE!"
