FIRST MONTH

First month of school is hard to believe the academic year is going by so far.  All students attended our discipline assemblies two weeks ago.  Students received a copy of their student agenda/handbook which has some critical information.  The agenda is a tool we use to also teach students good organizational practices so they can stay on top of assignments, special dates, or good note-taking abilities. The first week of school we began our indoctrination of nothing but our rituals and routines on campus. These are our expectations for all learners and how they can be successful.

Seniors received a special assembly not only like all the other grade levels, but also in preparation of that magical day in May called Graduation. Our graduation vendor Herff Jones was on campus and provided information on ordering caps and gowns along with other graduation supplies. This year is the largest senior class with over 747 current 12th graders. Juniors also receive class ring information as well. Separate Senior news is also posted on the Class of 2025 Teams Page.  Parents of underclassmen can also track what is going on campus by gaining access to their child’s Saint Nation Microsoft Teams page.

OPEN HOUSE – SEPT. 16TH 6:00 PM-7:30 PM

We hope all parents will join us for an informative night.  Students can also join clubs and find out more information on how to assist their child toward success.

SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL – 1ST MONDAY / MONTH @ 5:30 PM

CHAIR. Ms. Wilcox / Ms. Taylor

The School Advisory Council (SAC) is a school-based group intended to represent the school, the community, and those closest to the students. The group shares responsibility for guiding the school toward continuous improvement as indicated in the School Improvement Plan. The SAC has an annual budget of which they assist the principal in making decisions on how to use these improvement funds annually.

HOW TO SCHEDULE A MEETING WITH A TEACHER?

Parents seeking to meet with teachers can do so online or face-to-face.  Please call the Gold House / Ms. Weeks at 904-646-5100 or email: aweeksk@duvalschool.org.  Please specify if you want an online or in-person conference. If a teacher has personal conflict with the date or time of the proposed conference, they will contact you directly as soon as possible.

TESTING:  Classical Learning Test (CLT)

For non-concordant Seniors will have an opportunity to take the CLT on September 18, 2024, during school. Students should be on time to be eligible for this test. Electronic devices in the testing environment will invalidate the test scores.

GUIDANCE QUESTIONS

At the beginning of the year our Guidance team is extremely busy doing credit checks for Seniors which is our priority given the limited time we have to make final preparations for them to graduate.  This month our Guidance department will meet with each Senior face to face and give them a sheet that reflects their graduation readiness.  Parents find it easier to email their child’s counselor the first months of school due to them being in the classroom meeting with students. Please give counselors 3-5 days to return your emails, but you can also carbon copy the principal so I can follow up and make sure you were helped.

DONATIONS WELCOME

Each year we require the use of assistive medical devices such as crutches, scooters, or wheelchairs to aid students who are injured get around easier on campus. If you have such equipment laying around, feel free to donate them to our school Nurse office.  The equipment will be put to good use.

SAFETY & SECURITY

A big part of our assemblies for all grade levels talked about Sandalwood is and will continue to be a safe and civil school.  This means we have policies and procedures we expect students to always follow.  Student behavior is extremely important with a school our size. We expect students to notify an adult if they have any concern on campus. All children are required to be off campus by 2:30 P.M. unless they are in a supervised activity.  No loitering around campus is allowed at the end of school.

All students are aware of the dress code.  In summary, No Hats, No Hoodies (on head), No Stomachs should be exposed. The dress code policy is fully explained in the student agenda as well.

Students who behave in an unsafe manner, failure to follow directions, or are constantly late to class will be placed on a No-Go List.  This list restricts their access to any after-school activity where we feel they will not cooperate by following school policies and procedures.   This includes sporting events, clubs or performances.
