What is on-the-job-training (OJT)? 

A high school OJT education program is an academic elective that combines a comprehensive classroom curriculum with related work experience in the business community. OJT programs provide students with a meaningful opportunity to gain professional job experience related to an identified career goal. A student is released from the high school campus to work a paid part-time job, providing them with an opportunity to apply instruction learned in the classroom to real-world work site experience. 

Why join the OJT program at Sandalwood?  

OJT allows students to obtain an off-campus schedule to complete their OJT obligations at their place of work. This flexibility allows students to earn and save money for life expenses like vehicles, insurance, and college. Students are provided with guidance and monitoring from the OJT supervising teacher. Students will meet on campus quarterly to have opportunities to network with other OJT students and participate in career path training. Students in OJT programs grow a better understanding of how to balance the demands of furthering your education while bringing in an income. OJT students exit the program ahead of the competition with a professional resume, cover letter template, and extensive interviewing experience.  

How do I join the OJT program?  

Applications will be available online soon. Any student interested must already be employed and in good standing with their current employer. The number of OJT sections you enroll in will depend on the number of hours a week you can work. The OJT courses will be coded as Cooperative Diversified Education on your transcript, and you will receive a grade. See table below based on a 7-period schedule.

**Students must still be scheduled into classes required to graduate, which may limit how many OJT courses they are able to take. SLS is a required course**
