At San Jose, our teachers are committed to making learning meaningful and memorable. Something deliciously fun happened —our 2nd grade classrooms were transformed into vibrant, fully immersive donut shops as part of a creative literacy and math unit that had students buzzing with excitement.
But it wasn’t just about donuts—it was about imagination, motivation, and mastery. Students were invited to envision themselves as donut shop owners, collaborating with peers to “run” their business while tackling literacy and math challenges. Each activity acted as a “task” in managing their shop, encouraging ownership, teamwork, and a love for learning. This transformation brought academic rigor to life in the most joyful way.
The 2nd grade Donut Shop Transformation Day is a shining example of how creativity and curriculum can come together to fuel student success.
Sweet work, 2nd grade Pandas! 🍩🐼
