San Jose Elementary School is proud to announce Literacy Week 2026, happening January 26–30! This year’s theme, “Read, White & Blue: Celebrating 250 Chapters of America,” honors the power of books, stories, and literacy in shaping our communities, our culture, and our future.
🏡 The Power of Reading at Home
Families play an essential role in building literacy. During Literacy Week, we are encouraging every Panda family to join us in a simple but meaningful challenge:
📱 Put the phone down.
📚 Pick a book up.
❤️ Read together as a family.
We understand that life is busy — work, homework, sports, and long days can make evenings feel like a blur. But reading doesn’t have to be perfect or complicated. It can be as simple as:
Reading a bedtime story
Taking turns reading a page
Talking about characters and events
Reading a bilingual book in English/Spanish (or other language spoken in the home)
Listening to an audiobook together
What matters most is building a daily habit and helping your child see reading as something joyful and valuable.
🌟 Literacy Starts with a Routine
One of the most powerful things families can do is create a consistent evening routine that includes reading:
🕯️ “After dinner, we read.”
📺 “Before screen time, we read.”
🛏️ “Before bed, we read.”
Small routines lead to BIG progress.
Thank you for being our partners in learning and for helping us grow strong readers at home.
Together, we are building a future full of readers and lifelong learners. 🐼📖
