Southside Middle School National Junior Honor Society
The Southside Middle School National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is a prestigious organization whose membership is by invitation only. It is discriminatory in its selection process whereby special privileges are granted to a select few students who are in exceptional academic standing and have excellent character.
The NJHS establishes rules for membership that are based upon a student's outstanding performance and five criteria: citizenship, service, leadership, scholarship and character. Members must maintain a grade point average 3.0 and become good citizens by participating in service projects to the community, school, or other organizations.
The organizational structure includes the principal, two advisors, a Faculty Council (five teachers), and the student membership. Applications will be distributed to all students who meet this criteria for Scholarship. The Faculty Council will meet to thoroughly review each application. After review, the Faculty Council will vote to determine if the student’s membership is accepted or declined with the majority being the rule.
