Senator Families, Remember that we dismiss at 2:30 today... Due to a communication, misunderstanding, communities in schools, big brothers big sisters and other after school programs that rely on activity bus transportations will not be in place today. Those students need to ride normal transportation home. -JM

Teacher of the Month - Aug
FMS Testing Schedule: When we return Tuesday, we will enter into the first of three assessment windows for the state. PM 1 will take centerstage this week for 4 days. Students will find their assessment or bootcamp locations posted outside of student services and in the cafeteria each day. Our testing team headed by Mr. Atwater have worked diligently to craft a plan that allows students to not lose instructional time even when the testing schedule impacts the entire school. It is important to know that our teachers are creating structured academic experiences aka “Bootcamps” to ensure students are prepared for upcoming assessments and are receiving content knowledge to encourage their overall success. If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to the main office.

SAC Opening Meeting
Good evening Fletcher Middle School Families. This is Principal McKenzie with your Week 3 update. Thank you for another great week. We are gearing up for campus life to break into full stride. After Labor Day all clubs will be active and ready for participation. I will have each club, location, and their meeting time added to the Week at a Glance for your reference. Our desire is that there is something in which every child can participate. Tuesday the 27th is a big day in the life of our school. We will host our ESOL Parent Meeting at 5pm in Student Services, our PTSA General Meeting at 5:30pm in Student Services, and Open House will be campus-wide from 6pm to 8pm. Please see the schedule attached to this call’s corresponding email and on social media. The campus opens at 6pm and you will follow a bell schedule through the 8 periods. We understand that life can delay you and so do not feel as though you are bound by the schedule. This is simply there as a reference for those who need that structure. We will also have partner organizations and many of our clubs represented in the gym throughout the night. Please feel free to visit that area. Class Adjustment: The link for class adjustments closed last week. We are working through the budget to determine if we are impacted by enrollment and after that process classes will be leveled. This is common at the secondary level. Please prepare your child(ren) for the possibility of shifts due to course leveling. We do not have a time frame for this but rest assured, when we know, we will communicate with you. Communication: Please be sure to download the DCPS app so that you are able to get connected with Thrillshare as we begin communication through this platform. This week we continue football practices. Volleyball begins tryout in the morning at 7:30am in the gym. Also, please mark your calendars for Tuesday, September 3rd as we host the ONLY Middle School Football Jamboree in Jacksonville! This event will showcase teams from all over the city here at Jack Taylor Stadium. Tickets can be purchased through the gofan app or gofan.co. Please reach out to Coach Colado with your questions. Finally, we would like to thank our business sponsor of the week Johnson’s Custom Cabinetry. Thank you to Johnson’s Custom Cabinetry for sponsoring the Social Studies department! I look forward to seeing you all this Tuesday. Have a restful weekend. Regards, Joe McKenzie Week At a Glance: Monday August 26th - A Day No Clubs Football Practice 4:20pm Tuesday August 27th - B Day - Open House 6-8pm Volleyball Tryouts 7:30am - Gym No Clubs Football Practice 4:20pm Wednesday August 28th - A Day Volleyball Tryouts 7:30am - Gym Dance Team Practice 8:20am No Clubs Football Practice 4:20-6:20 pm Thursday August 29th - B Day Volleyball Tryouts 7:30am Gym No Clubs Football Practice 4:20-6:20 pm Friday August 30th - A Day No Clubs *All practice times are subject to change based on communication from the coach.

Hello Team Duval families, We heard your feedback! You said you wanted a seamless, streamlined communication experience. Everything in one place. We are excited to present the NEW Duval Schools app! About the Duval Schools App Through this easy-to-navigate app, you can: • Receive a feed of regular district and school-level updates. • Access the Parent Portal to see your child’s academic information. • Communicate with teachers through a new two-way communication tool called Rooms! This means that you will no longer need multiple tools to keep up with your students’ teachers. District updates, classroom updates, and parent-teacher communication will all exist within one tool. You will continue to receive phone calls, text messages, emails, and/or voice calls from the district and your students’ principals to ensure that no matter what type of communication you prefer, your needs are met. About Rooms Rooms is a two-way parent-teacher communication tool that is available in the new app. It will bring all classroom conversations into one place and will take the place of any other communication tool previously used by Duval County Public Schools. It also enables teachers to share classroom announcements and updates in a way that’s much simpler for families. Here are just a few Rooms features we think you’re going to love: • Two-way messaging with parents, guardians, students, and staff in a monitored, secure space • Teachers can share classroom announcements, activities, and send reminders about coursework to families • Teachers can upload and store classroom materials • Teachers can record student behavior and academic progress • Automatic translation in your preferred language How Do I Get Started? Follow these three easy steps: 1. Delete the old Duval Schools app on your phone if you had one. 2. Download the new Duval Schools app. 3. Visit www.duvalschools.org/app for easy-to-use tutorials on how to navigate Rooms and the new app. We look forward to a great school year!
