Good evening, Fletcher Middle School Families.
This is Principal McKenzie with your weekly update.
Thank you for a great first week of school. It was great to have students in the hallways and learning happening in the building!
Here are a few things to be mindful of as we enter the second week of school…
Walkers and bike riders should be using the designated crosswalks when crossing the streets. This has been an issue particularly on Seagate. Please have that conversation with your student(s).
7 Period Day:
Time is tight between classes. Students must move with purpose in getting to each course each day. Students have gotten used to the traffic pattern systems this week as there are designated staircases for each grade. Tardies will be logged beginning Monday.
Phones:
So far so good! Our Senators have done a great job with this aspect of the day, and we expect that this will remain the case throughout the year.
As a reminder, cellphones are banned from use on the school site. They should be away and off. Many teachers have locations in the class to store phones so that they are not a temptation during instruction.
Class times are 50 minutes per period, so we need to have complete bell to bell focus as we provide instruction.
Students will have phones confiscated when they do not comply with DCPS, State and school policy. We will provide one warning where students may get their phone back at the end of the day, but after that we will require a parent or guardian to come and retrieve the phone from the front office. There will be no exceptions to this policy.
If there is an emergency and your child needs to call please have them ask the teacher for a pass to the office or they can use the classroom phones.
Dress Code: Please see the detailed email sent tout Friday for clarification.
If you have issues with the DCPS Code of Appearance, please let us know and we will forward your information to be added to the committee that reviews and revises our policies.
IDs:
IDs are part of the required code of appearance so they must be worn daily. IDs will be distributed tomorrow and should be worn daily. IDs lost after initial replacement can be purchased for $5.
Lunches:
Lunch will be provided free of charge for the first 30 days of school, however after that initial period, lunch will cost $4.25. You can add funds through the DCPS App under “more” and then tap Dining/Payment.
Please see the Free and Reduced Lunch link if your family needs that supportive measure.
Breakfast remains free of charge daily.
Please mark your calendars with a couple of dates:
The first day of school will be August 11th.
Open House will be held on August 26th from 6pm-8pm.
All clubs begin after Labor Day!
Our business partner of the week is RTEAM- Producers of Fin Fest! Thank you RTeam for sponsoring our Art Department!
Have a great evening… and as always, Go Senators!

Good evening, Fletcher Middle School Families.
This is Principal McKenzie with your week one update.
Thank you for a great orientation. How wonderful was it to be in gym instead of the cafeteria! We are so thankful for your support and are looking forward to a great year. We are a school community dedicated to supporting the work you do as parents.
Here are a few things to be mindful of as we enter the school year.
On the first day, 6th grade car riders, walkers and bikers will enter the Seagate parking lot. 7th and 8th graders will enter through 18th.
I know that you would like to walk your children on campus, but we ask that you refrain from doing so. We have a top-notch team in place and they will make sure that your child or children have the best possible experience on day one.
7 Period Day:
Make sure your child knows where their 1st period class is. They will receive a fresh schedule in that class. The day will move quickly through their courses and the passing time between classes is 3 minutes. Students should be focused on getting to class on time and ready to learn. There is little time to stop and socialize between classes.
Phones:
Cellphones are banned from use on the school site. They should be away and off. Many teachers have locations in the class to store phones so that they are not a temptation during instruction.
Class times are 50 minutes per period, so we need to have complete bell to bell focus as we provide instruction.

If there is an emergency and your child needs to call please have them ask the teacher for a pass to the office or they can use the classroom phones.
Dress Code:
Please see the image online and attached to the corresponding email. Please note the hat and hood policy (no hats or hoods worn on campus during the school day), and the parameters for clothing length. If you have issues with DCPS policy, please reach out to Mr. Copeland’s office and he will be able to assist you and sign you up for the Code of Conduct planning committee.
IDs:
IDs are part of the required code of appearance so they must be worn daily. The first week of school, IDs will be distributed to 6th graders and those who need a replacement. IDs lost after initial replacement can be purchased for $5.

Open House will be held on August 26th from 6pm-8pm.
It continues to be my greatest honor to be trusted to lead this school and your children through some of the best, and yet chaotic years of their lives.
This year we are writing our story of greatness as a school family, because together we make great things happen!
Have a great evening… and as always, Go Senators!

Today 08/06, between 1-4 we will provide your with an opportunity to get laptops for your students. This will take place in Student Services. -JM
