John Stockton Elementary School has been a part of the Ortega community for nearly 70 years. A model of academic success, our teachers consistently provide hands-on, differentiated learning opportunities with a focus on integrating science, technology, and engineering into our core curriculum. This approach to learning has produced consistent results for our school, earning us an A for 24 years. Stockton was also named a School of Excellence and is ranked in the top 3% in the state.
Our goal at JSE is to provide children with the tools they need to be critical thinkers, independent learners, and students who take ownership of their education. Our staff is dedicated to fostering an environment of inclusivity, while also ensuring each child has the individual resources needed to be successful. We also have the benefit of a full-time military family life counselor who provides support to our military population.
JSE is a strong community of teachers, staff, administrators, and parents who have come together to support the student experience. We have been highly successful in attracting and retaining stellar teachers thanks in part to the community support. Our teachers’ love for the job is evidenced by their care for the students — and this extends to all of us at JSE. We pride ourselves on knowing each child by name and maintaining an energy and passion for learning that we hope is contagious!
Hands-on learning is a hallmark of our instruction, and teachers employ a variety of STEM resources that help children put their classroom lessons into practice. Our Pitsco Science Lab offers students opportunities in robotics, coding, computer science, and more. Outside of the classroom, students have access to a plethora of after-school clubs and enrichment opportunities. We also have several schoolwide events throughout the year, including STEM Day, Art Day, and Play Day, just to name a few.
