Miles has been having an amazing adventure with Vincent A. and Elijah A!

Their journey began in Nevada, where Miles explored the bright lights of Las Vegas and the beautiful desert landscape. From there, they traveled to Utah to visit the famous Mighty Five National Parks! Miles hiked through Zion, marveled at the colorful hoodoos of Bryce Canyon, explored Capitol Reef, enjoyed the breathtaking views of Canyonlands, and stood beneath the incredible arches at Arches National Park.

The best part? Miles completed the Junior Ranger Program at all five parks and earned five Junior Ranger badges! 🎖️🎖️🎖️🎖️🎖️

After Utah, Miles continued on to Colorado, where he enjoyed stunning mountain views and even more outdoor adventures.

What an incredible trip filled with learning, exploration, and unforgettable memories! Thank you, Vincent and Elijah, for taking Miles along on your adventure and helping us reach more states on our journey across America! 🇺🇸

📍States Visited: Nevada, Utah, and Colorado
Fun Facts-
🌵 Nevada
Nevada is known as the Silver State because large amounts of silver were discovered there in the 1800s.
About 80% of Nevada is owned by the federal government, making it one of the least privately owned states in the country.
Las Vegas is famous for its bright lights and is one of the most visited cities in the world.
Nevada is home to Lake Tahoe, one of the deepest and clearest lakes in North America.
The state flower is the Sagebrush, a plant that thrives in the desert.

🏜️ Utah
Utah is home to the Mighty Five National Parks: Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands, and Arches.
Arches National Park has more than 2,000 natural stone arches, the most in the world!
Utah contains the Great Salt Lake, which is one of the largest saltwater lakes in the Western Hemisphere.
Bryce Canyon's famous rock formations are called hoodoos—tall, skinny spires of rock created by weathering.
Utah was the 45th state to join the United States in 1896.

⛰️ Colorado
Colorado is known as the Centennial State because it became a state in 1876, 100 years after the Declaration of Independence.
The state has 58 mountain peaks that rise higher than 14,000 feet. These are called "fourteeners."
The highest point in Colorado is Mount Elbert, which stands at 14,440 feet tall.
Colorado is the only state that lies entirely above 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) in elevation.
The famous Rocky Mountains run through Colorado, making it a popular place for hiking, skiing, and wildlife viewing.

🎖️ Junior Ranger Badges Earned: 5

Miles has been busy exploring some incredible places across the eastern United States and learning about the people, places, and events that helped shape our nation!

🐴 Pennsylvania – Miles visited beautiful Lancaster County, home to one of the largest Amish communities in America. He enjoyed a traditional buggy ride and learned about Amish farming, family life, and strong community values. In Philadelphia, he visited the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, Congressional Hall, Benjamin Franklin's burial site, and even met the famous Phillie Phanatic! Fun Fact: Pennsylvania is known as the "Keystone State" because of its important role in the founding of the United States.

🧙 Massachusetts – In Salem, Miles learned about the famous Salem Witch Trials of 1692 and explored historic landmarks connected to this important chapter of American history. Fun Fact: Massachusetts is home to Plymouth, where the Pilgrims established one of America's earliest colonies in 1620!

🏛️ Washington, D.C. – Miles visited our nation's capital, where the President lives in the White House and Congress meets to make laws for the country. Fun Fact: Washington, D.C. is not a state—it's a special federal district created to serve as the nation's capital!

⚓ Maryland – At Fort McHenry in Baltimore, Miles stood where Francis Scott Key was inspired to write "The Star-Spangled Banner" after witnessing the American flag still flying during the War of 1812. Fun Fact: Maryland's state sport is jousting, making it one of the most unique state sports in America!

🏹 Virginia – Miles traveled to Historic Jamestown, the first permanent English settlement in North America. He learned about the Powhatan Tribe, Pocahontas, and the ongoing archaeological excavations at James Fort. Fun Fact: Virginia is known as the "Mother of Presidents" because eight U.S. presidents were born there!

🌟 North Carolina & South Carolina – Miles made a stop at the iconic South of the Border attraction near the North Carolina-South Carolina border before heading to Charleston. At Fort Sumter, he learned about the opening shots of the Civil War and even helped raise a replica flag with 33 stars representing the states at the beginning of the war. Fun Fact: South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union before the Civil War began.

From Amish country to colonial settlements, from our nation's capital to historic battlefields, Miles is discovering that every state has its own unique story to tell. We can't wait to see where his next adventure takes him as he works toward visiting all 50 states! 🇺🇸🗺️✨

Miles sends a special thank you to Ms. Maxwell for taking him on summer vacay with her family.

🇺🇸🌊 Miles Visits Rhode Island! 🌊🇺🇸

Miles may have arrived in the smallest state in America, but Rhode Island is packed with BIG adventures! Known as "The Ocean State," Rhode Island has more than 400 miles of beautiful shoreline, making it a paradise for beach lovers, sailors, and ocean explorers. Even though the state is only about 48 miles long, it is home to over 100 beaches and some of the most famous sailing waters in the world!

While exploring, Miles learned that Rhode Island was founded in 1636 by Roger Williams as a place where people could enjoy religious freedom. It was the last of the original 13 colonies to become a state... Miles also discovered that the first circus in America was held in Newport in 1774, and today Newport is known as the Sailing Capital of the World. Along the coast, visitors can spot seals, dolphins, and even whales swimming in the Atlantic Ocean!

Miles also met Rhode Island's state bird, the famous Rhode Island Red Chicken, and learned about the state's favorite shellfish, the quahog clam. From historic cities and sandy beaches to ocean wildlife and sailing ships, Rhode Island proves that great things really do come in small packages. Thank you Ella G for taking Miles along for the ride and for another state checked off the map... As Miles continues his journey to all 50 states before October 1st! 🗺️⭐ #MustangsAcrossAmerica #MilesOnTheMove #RhodeIslandAdventure #OceanState #LearningAcrossAmerica 🇺🇸🐴🌊

❄️ Mustangs Across America: Alaska Adventure! ❄️🐻

Miles made a very special stop in Alaska, America's largest state—and guess who he met? 🎅 Santa Claus himself. Who knew....he has a vacation home there! Alaska is so big that Texas could fit inside it more than twice! It's home to Denali, the tallest mountain in North America, more than 3 million lakes, thousands of glaciers, and amazing animals like bears, moose, caribou, and bald eagles.

Did you know that in some parts of Alaska the sun stays out almost all day during the summer? ☀️ That's one reason Alaska is such an exciting place to visit! Miles had a blast exploring the Last Frontier, learning about its incredible wildlife, and sharing a photo with Santa. Thanks to our very own Camden W for taking Miles along on the adventure to alaska our 49th state.

📸 Be sure to follow along as Miles continues his journey to all 50 states before October 1st! 🇺🇸🗺️ #MustangsAcrossAmerica #Miles&MavisTheMustang #AlaskaAdventure #LearningAcrossAmerica

Dear Mustang Families,

As we head into summer, we want to encourage our students to continue practicing the foundational skills for their upcoming grade level. Attached to this letter you will find a grade-level flyer outlining the essential skills students should have mastered this school year in order to be successful next year.

These are not “extra” skills — they are the building blocks students will need to access and master the next level of curriculum. Just like athletes continue to practice over the summer to stay sharp, our students benefit from short, consistent practice as well.

When students have downtime this summer, we encourage families to build in a few minutes of practice each day. Flash cards, reading together, math fact games, writing, telling time, and discussing books are simple ways to keep skills fresh and prevent the “summer slide.” Small moments of practice can make a BIG difference in student confidence and success when school begins again.

Please note that students will be assessed on these foundational skills during the first five weeks of school on Fridays, and these assessments will count as part of their class grade. Our goal is not to create stress, but rather to ensure students begin the year feeling prepared, capable, and ready to grow.

In addition to foundational skills practice, we are also sending home the 2026–2027 Sunshine State Young Readers book list for grades k-2. We would LOVE for students to get a jump start on reading this summer and join our schoolwide Sunshine Young Readers Book Club with Mrs. Doyle! Students who begin reading now will have an exciting head start and opportunities to participate in book club activities throughout the school year.

We appreciate your partnership and support in helping our Mustangs continue learning and growing all summer long. Thank you for helping us ensure students return ready to “Saddle Up” for another successful school year!

With appreciation,

Dear Families,

As we approach the last week of school, we want to thank you for your partnership and support throughout the year. This is an exciting time for students, but it can also bring heightened emotions and energy. Recently, we have experienced an increase in student conflicts, including disagreements, threats, and physical altercations.

The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. We are asking for your support in reinforcing the importance of respectful behavior, positive decision-making, and appropriate conflict resolution at school and online. We take ALL threats of violence seriously and will always follow the code of conduct.

Please take a few moments to speak with your child about:

Treating others with kindness and respect

Reporting concerns or threats to a trusted adult immediately

Avoiding social media posts or messages that may escalate conflicts

Understanding that threats, fighting, or unsafe behavior will result in school consequences and possible involvement of law enforcement

Our staff will continue to closely supervise students and proactively address concerns to help ensure a safe and positive end to the school year. We encourage families to partner with us by monitoring conversations and social media activity and reminding students that everyone deserves to feel safe at school.

If your child shares information about a potential conflict or safety concern, please contact the school office immediately so we can respond promptly.

As a reminder no backpacks this week and ask your student to check lost and found for any lost items.
