Out came the "old-fashioned" work bins, aka my ultimate bag of tricks. No screens, no loading wheels, just hands-on problem solving, real curiosity, and notebooks filled with big ideas. Watching these 5th graders pivot without missing a beat made my teacher heart burst.

Today we celebrate our Beautiful, Fearless, Amazing, Brilliant, Magnificent School Leader's Birthday! Her birthday is tomorrow, September 5th, but we are celebrating her today! All students and staff are safe. However, the school was briefly evacuated this morning after smoke was detected in the kitchen area. Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department personnel responded immediately and conducted a thorough inspection. Following their assessment, they gave the all-clear for students and staff to safely return to the building, and we have resumed our normal schedule.
District maintenance teams will remain on site to continue their inspection and determine the cause of the issue.
The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we work through this unexpected situation.

GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND – Today’s Team Duval Shoutout goes to Pablo Tolentino and Xavier Curtis for going above and beyond to support Fort Caroline Elementary! Nominated by Fort Caroline Principal Dr. Roberts-Graham, Pablo and Xavier, district employees, were sent to Fort Caroline to address an AC unit that was in serious need of attention. They did an amazing job getting it cleaned and properly taken care of. Their thoroughness, professionalism, and attention to detail made a big difference and did not go unnoticed! Why is the 1 mill back on the ballot this November?
The current 1-mill was approved by Duval County voters in 2022, and under Florida law, voters must consider its continuation every four years.
The 1 mill has helped support teacher compensation and efforts to recruit and retain qualified, certified educators. Since 2022, teacher vacancies have declined, teacher retention has increased, and Duval County Public Schools has become an A-rated district for two consecutive years.
As we approach the November election, we’ll be sharing factual information to help our school community understand what the 1 mill is, how the funding is used, and what voters will be asked to consider.
