Modern Languages & Cultures

Welcome to the Modern Languages & Cultures Department at Westside High School! Students have the opportunity to study Spanish or French while building valuable communication skills and gaining a deeper understanding of cultures around the world.

Our courses help students develop proficiency in:

  • Speaking and listening

  • Reading and writing

  • Grammar and vocabulary

  • Cultural awareness and global perspectives

Through engaging lessons, interactive activities, and real-world language practice, students gain the confidence to communicate in another language while preparing for college, careers, and an increasingly connected world.

Why Study a World Language?

Learning a second language helps students:

  • Strengthen communication and critical thinking skills

  • Explore diverse cultures and traditions

  • Prepare for college admissions and future careers

  • Build confidence through meaningful, real-world communication
